The records document Consumers' Research's interest in the technologies of radio and television as they emerged and became entangled in legal, free speech, technical, and consumer issues. Consumers' Research was especially interested in radio during the 1930s. Included are correspondence, magazine and newspaper clippings, technical journal articles, and miscellaneous printed materials. Subjects included are radio, television, advertising, quack advertising, advertising control of radio, censorship, consumer programs, RCA control of radio, criticism of radio and television, the Federal Communications Commission, government control, programming, suppression, and suppression of F.J. Schlink's anti-NRA radio address (1934). Also includes materials on telephones, public utilities, electrical service, gas rates, and the U.S. Postal Service.
